Who we are

Catherine Morar is the Founder and Director of Critical Control Advisory, bringing over 20 years' experience in process safety and operational risk management to organisations across minerals processing, oil and gas, and chemical processing, including major hazard facilities (MHF).

Before founding Critical Control Advisory, Catherine held senior process safety roles at Rio Tinto, Orica, Caltex, Aurecon, Technip and BP, across Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia — leading safety case renewals, facilitating HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA studies, and developing critical control management frameworks used across global operations. Most recently, as Principal Process Safety Advisor at Rio Tinto, she led the design and rollout of a standardised bowtie methodology for critical control management across the business.

Catherine now works directly with organisations as an independent adviser — bringing the same rigour she applied at group level to translate complex risk analysis into practical, defensible decisions, and to build lasting risk management capability within client teams, not just deliver one-off studies.
